What to look for
Look for what children chose to do. A few work at a table, a few on the floor. Notice whose hands are busy and whose eyes are on a friend. In a room set up well, the shelves stay ordered and the same materials sit within reach every day. Children know where the crayons live, and that knowing is what lets them start.
